Author Guidelines
General Guidelines
GMS Medizin Bibliothek Information is a freely accessible electronic journal. This journal´s objective is the publication of articles in the fields of librarianship and information science, focussing on topics concerning medical libraries at universities, hospital libraries and pharmaceutical libraries. The chief editor decides on accepting or rejecting an article. Publication languages are German and English.
Publication Requirements
The submitted manuscripts or substantial parts of them should not have been previously published or submitted for publication somewhere else. The abbreviated version of the contents for presentation at a meeting is not regarded as a publication.
Authorship and Copyright
All authors insure that they have furnished a substantial contribution to the article and that they are in agreement with form and contents of the manuscript. The author conducting the negotiations confirms that he holds the copyrights on his works as well as on the text and illustrations attached therein in the Author's Contract. If material (e.g. illustrations or tables) is used from other sources, the author must submit a written statement from the holder of the copyrights indicating agreement with a publication in GMS Medizin Bibliothek Information. In cases of publication, the author grants GMS Medizin Bibliothek Information the right to store in databases for an unlimited period of time, to distribute and to reproduce the article in electronic form, as well as to the individualized print for users of the print-on-demand service. All remaining exploitation rights of the author are not restricted, however, all further publications should display original publication note (originally published in: GMS Med Bib Inf 2005;5:...).
Manuscript Preparation
In General
The manuscripts are to be submitted in German or English. Additionally German and English abstracts as well as the German and English title should be included. The manuscripts may include tables, diagrams and pictures, as well as sound or video sequences. The manuscript should be clearly structured. The headings of the main sections, which function as navigation points in the online-document, should be as short as possible.
Article Types
In addition to original contributions, which should provide a substantial contribution to a topic in the fields of librarianship and information science, the following types of articles can be published: Editorial, interview, meeting report, lecture, appraisal, bibliography.
Furthermore, enterprises can present their recent products using the article
type Product Review. Publication of a Product Review costs 1.000 € (+ VAT).
Please give author name, company e-mail address and company postal address;
moreover, the Author Guidelines apply. As for all articles, the Chief Editor
decides on acceptance or rejection. One Product Review is published
exclusively per issue of GMS Medizin – Bibliothek – Information.
Title Page
On the first page of the manuscript the German and English title of the article is stated, followed by the surnames and first names of all authors, their e-mail addresses and the facilities where they are active. Then give separately the name, mail and e-mail address of the author conducting the correspondence.
Abstract and Key Words
All original contributions are to be preceded by a German and an English abstract. The summary is to be drawn up in such a way that it represents a condensed extract of the work. The author should indicate adequate keywords
Literature References
The literature cited in the text has to be listed at the end of the article according to the Vancouver Style of References also used in Medline. References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in this list. This reference list can be arranged according to the citation in the text or alphabetically according to the surnames of the first author. References in text, tables, and legends have to be identified by Arabic numerals in square brackets.

Technical Requirements
Typography and Technical Terms
The manuscript should be composed as structured continuous text in Arial (font size normal text 10 pt). Tables should be written preferably with the same font. Do not use block style or hyphenation when drawing up your manuscripts. Line breaks are only to be inserted in paragraphs. Highlighting of parts of the texts through means of colours or borders is not possible. Notes have to be integrated in the continuous text and may not be added as footnotes. Literature references are to be numbered consecutively in the text and listed at the end of the document as text. Hyperlinks can be integrated in the continuous text. If they are cited as a reference there should exist a complete reference (see Literature references). All illustrations and tables are to be provided with legends and numbered consecutively. Each table or figure has to be indicated unambiguously in the text (e.g. [Figure 1]). It is not sufficient to place the table or figure in the text itself. All abbreviations have to be dissolved when used the first time. If necessary there should be added a list of abbreviations.
Graphic formats
The following graphic formats may be used: the formats TIFF and BMP (loss-free bitmap-formats); GIF and PNG (bitmap-formats compressed) for charts, JPG (compressable bitmap-format) for photos. Even if the graphics are integrated in the text, they should be provided additionally as separate files with clear file names.
